Vyom Mehta‘s quest for the creature since his asura sculptures in metal, terracotta, cement, paper mache and in his countless drawings – evokes a diverse world of non-human presences. This show is a gathering of such beings in continuing flux; through play and discovery, and shifts of power – in being, constant.

“As if everything that exists – aromas, light, metals
Were little boats that sail toward those isles of yours
that wait for me
… in me all that fire is repeated
In me nothing is extinguished or forgotten”
– Pablo Neruda

Having studied sculpture at Baroda, Vyom captured the imagination of art seekers at the India Art Fair, at the Jaipur Lit Fest, as part of group shows in Bombay and Delhi as well as in several site-specific commissions. Most recently, his work was seen at Kasturbhai Lalbhai Museum of Art. In this 4th solo, Vyom carries the germs of his early apprenticeship with Lynda Bengalis in America in as much as his more recent work with the potters of Mandla, MP as part of a livelihoods programme administered by the Asian Heritage Foundation.
