Envisioning ASIA | Gandhi and Mao in the photographs of Walter Bosshard

As Gandhi gathered 78 followers and marched 387 km from Sabarmati to Dandi, recording him was the Swiss photographer Walter Bosshard. Bosshard stayed on to photograph Gandhi in moments of solitude, creating iconic images of the Mahatma.

A few years later, Bosshard travelled to China to document Mao as he prepared the Chinese Red Army in the inhospitable caves of Yan’an.

Through the lens of Walter Bosshard, two of the most influential Asian leaders are seen at critical moments, in the decade of the 1930s.

This exhibition, presented in India for the first time is co-curated by Gayatri Sinha, criticalcollective.in and Peter Pfrunder, Fotostiftung, Winterthur, Zurich.
