Kutch is an ancient land. The word Kutch comes from kachchha meaning a turtle that came out of the sea. People continue to believe that Kutch is an ephemeral landmass and will one day return to the sea.

Kutch offers varied landscapes and ecosystems from the vast salt plains of the Great Rann to the grasslands of Banni the Charri Dhand wetlands and marshes around the Black Hills the plains of Lakhpat and Jakhau the mangrove swamps of Mundra and Koteshwar and the Gulf of Kutch with its coral reefs and creeks. Kutch is inhabited by diverse ethnic groups and communities which adds richness to its unique culture and is a wonderful example of a vibrant living heritage.

Archana has had a long association with Kutch collaborating with artisans to create textiles for urban markets for over 40 years and has built close relationships with this amazing land people and their many craft traditions. She will take you on a brief journey through this magical land.

The talk would be for 45 min. followed by a discussion with the speaker.
