2017-01-20 18:00:00 2017-01-21 22:30:00 Asia/Kolkata Flashover : An Open Mic Fest

Lutalica presents “Flashover”, An Open Mic Fest bringing you storytelling, poetry and comedy together the very first time in India! It is a baby step towards developing a proactive open mic culture in Ahmedabad.

The festival is a beautiful blend of spoken word art forms—poetry, story-telling and comedy.

The purpose behind “Flashover” is to provide a safe haven where people are innately encouraged to be themselves and voice their feelings and opinions without hesitance.

You won’t be judged, you won’t be controlled, it’s all about connecting—sans mobile phones, of course.

Presenting to you the three events for Day 1 (20 January 2017).

Event 1. Metanoia, presented by Simran Chhabra in association with Lutalica.

It is Ahmedabad’s first exclusive storytelling platform.

Every human life is unique, and a story becomes unique in its own way because of its narrator. In the end, all of us are a living, breathing collection of stories, some of which might just have the power to bring about a change.
For these exact reasons and for the pure love of storytelling, we bring to you Metanoia.

Timings: 6:45 PM – 7:45 PM.

Event 2. Comedy Open Mic by Mic-Testing.

What’s an open mic fest without a good dose of some good ol’ stand up comedy? We bring you an open mic hour of comedy, where not only new content will be performed but new formats will also be tried. Get ready for a laugh riot!

{ Note: The show is [R rated] Restricted (Offensive). The content can be offensive for some in terms of language, thoughts or actions. In case, you get offended easily, kindly refrain from attending the show for the greater good. }

Timing: 8:15 PM – 9:15 PM.

Event 3. Ruhaaniyat by Lutalica.

There are things, almost always, that get clustered in corners of our hearts or minds. Ruhaaniyat is such a space to create an environment where you can speak about things considered as taboo in personal, social and political spectrum. Come talk about the unspoken. Let’s voice our truest thoughts.

{ Link to the on-going POLL: click here }

Timing: 9:45 PM – 10:45 PM.

Presenting to you the three events for Day 2 (21 January, 2017).

Event 1. Poet’s Rendition by Lutalica

It’s your classic poetry recital. You have the freedom to recite your poems, or any other that stirs your soul. Some unadulterated poetic bliss.

Timing: 6:45 PM – 7:45 PM.

Event 2. Words and Voices (Vernacular Edition) by Lutalica

It is a branch of their monthly open mic, “Words and Voices”. The beauty of this event? It’s still the same, a room full of like minded non judgmental people, gathered to witness magic of words.
With or without a mic, it’s up to you how you plan to enchant people!

However, here is the catch, this time the enchantment would be solely either in Hindi or Gujarati.

Timing: 8:15 PM – 9:15 PM.

Event 3. Naya Masala by Mic-Testing

It is the space where some of the fastest growing comedians from Ahmedabad would try out their new stuff and fine tune some of their best jokes! All of them will be trying to leave the audience in splits of laughter and aim to hone their comedic talent.
And yes, you also get to see a surprise act!

{ Note: The show is [R rated] Restricted (Offensive). The content can be offensive for some in terms of language, thoughts or actions. In case, you get offended easily, kindly refrain from attending the show for the greater good. }

Timing: 9:45 PM – 10:45 PM.

Same Same But Different

Jahnvi Shrimankar, Kailash Waghmare: She grew up in a large joint family in South Mumbai. He in a family of marginal farmers in Maharashtra’s Jalna district. Her grandmother introduced her to the nuances of Dadra and Dhrupad through the Haveli Sangeet. He taught himself to sing perched on a Neem tree while grazing cattle in the vast open grounds outside his village. From childhood, she was rigorously groomed to be a singer with no room for distractions. His musical influences were diverse; the courtyard outside his home was an open stage for every passing itinerant performer. She found success as a commercial singer but is still looking for her artistic “voice”; he found success as an actor but the music remains his source of creative inspiration.

Two talented performers from different backgrounds, and different life experiences, facing different artistic and social challenges, yet bound together by their love for music, come together to share their life stories with searing honesty, humour and emotion. In telling their stories, they share music from different traditions, such as folk, classical, popular cinema, political, as they sing live, accompanied by a highly skilled band. Same Same but Different is a treat for the mind and the heart!
