We bring together three incredible classical dance artists and their troupes as they bring the magic of traditional storytelling with the fluid forms of traditional Indian dance–not only to perform but also to teach students of dance. Our schedule of events is as follows: Friday 16 November – CHATURANG KI CHAUPAL (a game of Ragas) by Shama Bhate and Nad Roop. Based on four parts of a musical composition, this intricate choreography uses the Chalupa as four strings of dance that combine and compete with each other. Danced in the Kathak style, the piece has received great reviews in performances in Mumbai at the NCPA. 10 AM – 11:30 AM – Kathak Workshop with Shama Bhate 8:30 PM – 10 PM – Main Performance Saturday 17 November – MURCHHANA: Sharmila Biswas and her company have taken a story of the spirit of the percussion instrument, Mridangam, told for centuries orally, and created a layered Odissi dance piece. A narrator tells the viewer effortlessly through the myriad planes of the myth. 11 AM – 12:30 AM – Chhau Workshop by Vanashree Rao and her students 8:30 PM – 10 PM – Main Performance by Sharmila Bisaws and troupe Sunday 18 November – Abhimanyu Vadh and other stories: Choreographer Vanashree Rao and her group Rasta United use Bharata Natyam, Kuchipudi and Chhau to explore modern interpretations of myths with flair and colour. 10 AM – 11:30 AM – Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi Workshop with Vanashree Rao 8:30 PM – 10 PM – Main Performance by Vanashree Rao and troupe Source : Facebook.
