Yamini 2018: an all-night Indian Musical Ensemble – Events in Ahmedabad

2018-02-24 21:00:00 2018-02-24 05:00:00 Asia/Kolkata Yamini 2018: an all-night Indian Musical Ensemble - Events in Ahmedabad Ahmedabad University in collaboration with SPICMACAY is hosting a unique all night long Indian Music concert titled as ‘Yamini’ on Saturday, 24th February 2018 form 9:00pm to 5: 00am (25th Fabruary 2018). The artists performing at ‘Yamini’ are the leading exponents of various forms of Indian classical music traditions. The event is being carefully curated to offer its audience an insight into the multifarious shades of Indian Music. Following artists have graciously agreed to perform at Yamini 2018 – A Music Events in Ahmedabad: 1. Vidushi Ashwini Bhide Deshpande Ashwini Bhide is a doyenne of Hindustani classical vocal music tradition. She has received various musical honours like ‘the Sangeet Natak Akademy award’, ‘Rashtriya Kumar Gandharva Samman’, ‘Sangeet Ratna Puraskar’, ‘Pandit Mallikarjun Mansoor Award’, Ashwiniji has Published books like “Ragarachananjali” followed up with “Ragarachananjali 2” which consists of her self-composed bandishes. Ashwiniji chose Music over her illustrious career in Biochemistry. She did her doctorate at the esteemed Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. 2. Vidushi N. Rajam N. Rajam started playing violin at the age of three and by the age of nine, she became a professional musician. She was a Professor of Music at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in the Faculty of Performing Arts for nearly 40 years. She has been the Chair of the department and the Dean of the college at BHU. She has received the prestigious titles of Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan along with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship. Her deep knowledge of the two diverse oceans of Hindustani and Carnatic music gave birth to the Singing Violin. She has performed in various countries in Europe and extensively toured the USA. 3. Sabir Khan Sabir Khan is a celebrated Sarangi player and the son of great Sarangi player and vocalist Padma Bhushan Ustad Sultan Khan. He has shared the stage with great artists such as Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pandit Kumar Bose, Pandit Anindo Chatterjee, etc. He has also accompanied stars like Ustad Gulam Ali, Talat Aziz, Asha Bhosle and the legendary Lata Mangeshkar. He has featured on MTV Unplugged and Coke Studio working with composers like A.R. Rehman, Karsh Kale and Salim-Sulaiman. 4. Pandit Uday Bhawalkar Udayji is the flag bearer of the Dhrupad Vocal tradition. He learnt his art from the stalwarts like Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar and Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar. Udayji is a professor at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata. He has received glorious awards like the Kumar Gandharva Samman and the Raza Foundation Award. He has contributed to the music of the Art films like Mani Kaul’s “Cloud Door”, Aparna Sen’s “Mr & Mrs Iyer”, Amol Palekar’s “Anahat”, Renuka Shahane’s “RITA”, etc. His music workshops have been hosted by Universities in India, Europe and the USA. 5. Bhuvanesh Komkali Bhuvanesh Komkali is a classical vocalist par excellence. He is the grandson of Pandit Kumar Gandharva. His musical quest continues today under the tutelage of Smt. Vasundhara Komkali and Shri Madhup Mudgal. He is currently engaged in enriching the archives of Pandit Kumar Gandharva’s music using the latest in digital technology. He has composed music for Hindi feature film ‘Devi Ahilya’. He is a recipient of awards like Shanmukhanand Shiromani Award, Mallikarjun Mansur Yuva Puraskaar, Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar. He is a regular performer for All India Radio.
