*Photography allowed at certain places. DSLR not allowed inside Bhadra Fort.
* Wear full pants as Jumma Masjid does not allow people in shorts.
* Wear comfortable shoes and carry water.

Exploring the walled city of Ahmedabad – Walk from Bhadra Fortress to Akha Bhagat Chowk

A walk through the area that’s responsible for laying the foundation of Ahmedabad! Bhadra Fortress, built around 1411 CE has witnessed several important events from the birth of Ahmedabad to the war between the Marathas and the Mughals and its subsequent conquest by the British. Used as a royal residence, guest house and prison over a period of time, the area from Bhadra to Teen Darwaja was once a royal square with sprawling gardens and palm trees. Witness how the area today has transformed into an expansive marketplace. There’s also a story with a strong cultural belief around it! Hear it out while you walk through and let your imagination go back in time. The area outside the Teen Darwaja was for the commoners and accommodates important spots such as the Jumma Masjid—the grand Friday Mosque, the vibrant Manek Chowk and labyrinthine Pols full of stories and magnificent havelis, the bejeweled old houses that are subjects of study by modern architects and artists.

Walk through the palimpsest of the spectacular walled city and be a spectator to the blend of the modern and traditional lifestyles of Ahmedabad.

Famous researcher and writer Dr. in the 5th batch of Mother Tongue Campaign. Manek Patel (Setu) will talk on the topic “From Ashawal to Independence Ahmedabad”.

Dr. Introduction of Manek Patel (bridge):
Doctors who are a dentist in business. Manek Patel “Setu” is a researcher-writer known for the subject of World Heritage City Ahmedabad. They have written 3 books on various subjects of Ahmedabad city and Ahmedabad city as well as made 3 documentaries.

Dr. Manek Patel ‘Setu’ started the writing activity with a daily letter, after that he published an article on the 5th pup installment named ‘Ahmedabad Katha’ in ‘Gujarat Samachar’. Later, ‘Ahmedabad-Katha’ was published as a book. In addition to six years of study and research at the end of 2009 Dr. Manek Patel had created ‘This is Ahmedabad’. Also at the same time, in their ‘Divya Bhaskar’ published an article named ‘Mirate Ahmedabad’ and ‘Karnavati Crossword’.

After Gujarat Samachar and Divyabhaskar, a 10-week article named ‘Ahmedabad of Ahmedabad’ was published in Nav Gujarat Samachar during 2019-3 and Dr. Manek Patel, writes articles for many years in Gujarat Government’s ‘Gujarat’ Deepotsavi issue by invitation. As well as in many other months their study articles about Ahmedabad are frequently published.
