Every year to mark the transition of the sun into ‘Makara’, or the zodiac sign of Capricorn a festival is celebrated paying homage to the Sun God. It is also considered as the start of the harvest season. Different parts of the country have their own special way of celebrating it. From Pongal in Tamil Nadu to Bhogali Bihu in Assam or Lohri Uttarayan in Gujarat and Markar Sakranti in Northern India, although the festivities differ from region to region, the festival is celebrated with great zeal and fervor everywhere.
