AHMEDABAD: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will celebrate ‘Namami Devi Narmada’ ceremony on the banks of the Sabarmati on Tuesday. The water level in the Sabarmati is currently at 133 feet, and all of it is Narmada water. In a joint statement, Mayor Bijal Patel and municipal commissioner Vijay Nehra said that the water requirements of the city for the next two years will be met by Narmada waters. The city will not face any water crisis they said, adding that around 10,000 people will take part in the event on Tuesday.

As part of the celebration, there will be a cleanliness drive and collection of plastic at Jamalpur. The maha-aarti will be held in Jamalpur area on Tuesday morning. Also, 79 trees will be planted at Atal Ghat to mark the Namami Devi Narmada celebrations. Mayor Bijal Patel said the city will host a series of events which includes a display of water sports adventures. She said that two airboats, two jet-skis, 10 rescue boats, four scuba diving, and four rowing boats will again begin operations in the river through the city. She said that water sports were stopped due to lack of water in the Sabarmati, but now it will begin anew.
