2022-08-28 23:30:00 2022-08-28 12:30:00 Asia/Kolkata Convergence of the Anthropocene

We are pleased to announce the first series of the Reading Sessions that will be conducted over three weeks starting on Sunday, 28 August 2022 at Arthshila Ahmedabad.

‘Convergence of the Anthropocene’ by Krishna Parikh is about our current climatic crises and how we, humans, have brought it upon ourselves. The three readings are focused on understanding the rhetorical, the literal, and the historical aspects of climate change. Each writer brings a unique perspective to unpacking the repercussions, current, and past, of our actions on the planet and our built environment. In doing so, they reinforce the belief that continuing on the same path as now will bring our world to the brink of collapse. The planet will survive still.

About the book:

‘The Uninhabitable Earth: Life After Warming’ is a 2019 non-fiction book by David Wallace-Wells about the consequences of global warming. It was inspired by his New York magazine article “The Uninhabitable Earth”. Following the narrative of cascading effects of climate change, Wallace-Wells talks about the rhetoric behindclimate change and how it changes and shifts perspectives like a Kaleidoscope. He starts with the most basicform of information dissemination, storytelling. Many cognitive biases in behavioural science mystify ourperception of the changing climate. The affluence of the capitalist era, riding on the backs of the fossil fuelindustry, is so big and all-encompassing that it is easier to imagine the end of the world than the end ofcapitalism.

About Krishna Parikh:

Krishna Parikh is the Co-founder & Architect at Compartment S4. Krishna has been actively involved in various Sustainable Architecture projects as well as commercial interior design projects. She has simultaneously also taught various Architecture design studios at CEPT University as a Teaching Assistant.
