In 1956, the Lalbhai Dalpatbhai Museum was established with the joint efforts of Kasturbhai Lalbhai, a prominent Ahmedabad- based industrialist and a Jain monk, Muni Punyavijayji.

The museum houses three galleries—the Smt. Madhuri Desai Gallery exhibits a wide-ranging variety of sculptures in various artistic styles from across India.

The Muni Punyavijayji gallery collection, which was assembled by the Jain monk during the 1940s, consists of palm leaf manuscripts—its oldest artifact is a painted paper manuscript from 1396 AD, which is recognized as a global treasure by UNESCO.

The Priyakant T. Munshaw gallery consists of a collection of Indian coinage. Some rich collections also displayed are the Arvind Lalbhai collection, the Kasturbhai Lalbhai collection, the Gopi-Anand Beadwork collection, the Lilavati Lalbhai Wood Work collection and Ramayana Drawings of the Ayodhya Kanda.
