Cinema-Ghar is a film screening initiative by Conflictorium and Drishti. The film screenings which will be organised on the first weekend (Saturday and Sunday) of every month will screen award-winning shorts, documentaries and fiction films from across the country. The screenings hope to address the yearning of film lovers from the city to enjoy contemporary non-mainstream work.
Today the enthusiasm in Ahmedabad about quality films is palpable. Two films made in the city from the non-fiction genre won the national award in 2015 and 2016. A lot of young people are interested in taking up film as a career. While the entertainment industry is hugely influenced by the mainstream Bollywood films yet it is the not-so-popular work which influences the creative styles of filmmaking. These films are traditionally shown in film festivals and very rarely find a space in multiplexes. Cinema-Ghar bridges this gap and brings to the film-lovers of Ahmedabad critically acclaimed films.
The screenings will include two to three films each day of varying lengths from the short fiction/ documentary, animation, long documentary/fiction format. The sessions would be moderated by directors, film-makers, film critic, journalists or social activists. The films are curated by Debarun Dutta with support from the conflictorium team. Radio Nazariya 107.8 Mhz is the radio partner for the initiative.
