The book is like reading a personal diary, written from the point of view of an older man looking back over his life at university. It’s a deeply reflective coming-of-age story that sees Toru Watanabe try to understand his relationship with the girlfriend (Naoko) of his best friend (Kisuki) years after he committed suicide. No matter where you are in life, from which country you belong to the book is bound to form a strong impression upon you. The theme of love, loss, and sex are sure to stir up a storm inside you. This is not going to be a ‘talk’ but a discussion where we read anecdotes from the book and share our own experiences around it.
