The Nomad Cafe film club is coming back on track after a long break and we have something really interesting for you this new year.

In collaboration with the Public Service Broadcasting Trust (Psbt India), We are bringing to you a set of three, diverse, short documentaries, most of them by first time filmmakers, which explore the inter sectional and diverse experiences of gender, sexuality, identity, relationships, desire, freedom, choice and fearlessness, even as they challenge dominant assumptions and popular representations.

1) PLEASE MIND THE GAP – Directed by Mitali Trivedi & Gagandeep Singh Zaildaar. Delhi meets at the metro. The snaking lines of the tube connect the whole city. Passengers’ board from different places but for a brief moment in time they are all headed in the same direction. We share one such ride with our co-traveller Anshuman, a transman. As the stations pass, we begin to look at the metro space from his perspective. His is the story of reclaiming public space and one’s own self. The doors will open on the quest. Please mind the gap.

2) ZARA NAZAR UTHA KE DEKHO – Directed by Anindya Shankar Das. The Documentary juxtaposes personal narratives of cruising from the LGBTQ community, against diverse visuals of Indian public spaces, revealing different facets and complexities of urban cruising.

3) I’M NOT THERE – Directed by Ajita Banerjie. The Documentary explores the relationship between migration and one’s gender and views migration as a journey that allows one to leave behind a self that they don’t identify with, and move to a new space, seeking a new identity.

The Venue for the screening is The Working Company at Mithakhali, Ahmedabad.
