The Bard in Acrylic is the first solo exhibition of paintings by Shweta Rao Garg. It is her humble love offering to literature and art.

The paintings in this series are not mere illustrations of the Bard’s universe, but are interpretations that are fully self-aware and celebratory of the time and space between the artist and the Bard. Whilst references to Shakespeare’s work makes for an enriched viewing, this series can also be viewed as a portrayal of the artist’s worldview.

The Bard in Acrylic is an immersive experience with specially curated music playlist inspired by Shakespeare’s works.

Shweta Rao Garg is an artist and a writer based in Ahmedabad. She was awarded the prestigious Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowship for the year 2009-2010, during which she visited the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She won a prize from Sahitya Akademi in the year 2008 for translating a folk song from Kannada to English. Her tryst with art was rekindled a few years ago as a result of rendezvous with a friend. Shweta was inspired to portray the Bard on canvass after watching a performance of As You Like It at Shakespeare’s Globe, London. While watching the play, she was moved deeply and experienced that the Bard is still immensely relevant. Shakespeare is as profound as he is playful, and this is exactly what Shweta has aspired to capture.
