The Salt March, conceived and led my Mohandas K. Gandhi, is regarded as one of the defining movements in the history of the Indian independence struggle. On the 12th of March 1930 it commenced from the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, and traversing more than 240 miles through the heart of South Gujarat it concluded at the small coastal village of Dandi. For Gandhi the march was also a means to propagate social reforms, and perhaps he saw it as another challenge to explore his spiritual beliefs. Decades have passed since, and one wonders where are the villages through which the march passed? In what state are the sites where the satyagrahis rested? Are there any living witnesses? The series 23 Grams of Salt is about a photographer’s journey, spread over 80 villages, 90 years after the march, in search of these answers. To mark the 91st anniversary of the March, Navajivan Trust has published the book ‘23 Grams of Salt: Retracing Gandhi’s March to Dandi’ by Anuj Ambalal.

Anuj Ambalal studied finance from the Middlesex University, London, and worked briefly as an equity researcher before taking up photography. He works in diverse genres in the medium and has a number of solo and group exhibitions to his credit, in India as well as internationally. His works have been published in various art and photography journals in India and abroad. He has authored a book titled, ‘23 Grams of Salt: Retracing Gandhi’s March to Dandi’ that has received wide critical acclamation. Ambalal has had no formal training in photography. He lives in Ahmedabad where he also follows his other passion, furniture design.

Aatithya Of Nataraja

Lalbhai Dalpatbhai Museum in collaboration with Rasadhwani presents Aatithya Of Nataraja.

Of the many traditions in Indian culture that venerate the Gods, temple processions are prominent. The Chidambaram temple of Tamil Nadu exemplifies this ritual perfectly, wherein Nataraja is carried in a palanquin when he descends from heaven on pre-ordained days. Thousands of devotees serve God as they would a guest (atithi), chanting vedic mantras and performing temple rituals. The God who is formless (nirguna nirakara) is worshipped through form.

Dance, it is said is the greatest of offerings.

Let us partake in this divine journey which turns the museum into a temple, by witnessing the beginning of the performance with the rendition of a Mallari (procession) by the Rasadhwani dancers. Join us to experience the bhakti bhava of the devotees.

Arush - Stories of Peace

Arush, a solo storytelling show in Gujarati, captures the essence of `calm,` something we all crave. It speaks to our desire for detachment from our real life, a world where we can escape from our desires. We crave peace in every aspect of our lives, be it business, job, friends, or family. However, monthly targets and yearly appraisals can unwittingly make us ignore the peace that is already around us.

Immerse yourself in the world of a hidden village with storyteller Harsh. These captivating tales take you to a place that, while absent from any map of India, feels strangely real. Though fictional, the village bustles with the lives of people you might encounter in the everyday world.

Experience the magic of storytelling at `Arush – stories of peace,` hosted by Angikamm Academy, featuring the captivating storytelling talents of Harsh Dharaiya.
