In this walk, Breakaway ventures into the stories and traditions that have created the fabric of contemporary India and provided the world with some of the finest threads and most sought-after textiles. Situated on the banks of the river Sabarmati, Ahmedabad city has witnessed the rule of different dynasties that have contributed to its rich textile heritage.
Handspun, Handwoven & Hand-stitched—this is the motto of the label from where we are going to start our tour. This organisation empowers women artisans, practices sustainable ways of garment production and promotes conscious consumerism. Get introduced to traditional Indian embroidery techniques like Aahir embroidery, Rabari embroidery, etc. Next, the walk will take you back to the Gandhi era: observe how khadi cotton was spun and know about the textile’s immense contribution to the Indian Freedom movement.
