He is in everything. He is everything. He is time. He existed before time. He is everywhere, he is space and everything within it. He is Shiva- the potential. She burns, she triggers, she manifests and she is light. She is Shakti- she is power. Dance Inc. India brings to you Namah- a contemporary dance production, showcasing the workings of the cosmos through the interplay of Shiva- the potential and Shakti- the power. The production touches upon the moment before time existed and when it happened- you can call it The Big Bang, the dissipation or simply the work of God. The moment where all creation sprang to life.

The production juxtaposes the moment of creation with Shakti triggering the Supreme potential that is Shiva. Through Modern and Contemporary movement pieces mixed with classical vocabulary, the production showcases the preservation of the Universe and gives the traditional analogy of life cycle, a contemporary touch. The production further moves on to the essential part of all creation- Destruction with power packed contemporary, modern and classical influences in the pieces all the while showcasing the interplay of Shiv and Shakti and their effect on the Universe.

Hanuman ji and Maya

Bringing the divine story of Hanuman Ji & Maya to life through art.

I grew up in Mumbai city, a busy bustling city in India within a large united family. My childhood memories contain rituals, mythological stories, exotic flowers and intricate temple carvings. Waterfalls and mountain picnics took me on a fantasy adventure. Graduating from Sir JJ Institute of Arts definitely was a great milestone for me but my base took shape much earlier in life where I went to mountain sketch, illustrated temple carvings, sketched life forms in zoos, marketplace etc. I loved using different materials to experiment like wire, cloth, wood, clay, buttons and made everything from animal houses to backpacks to it all.

Through my art I want to talk about forgotten stories and mysteries that awaken our introspection. I want the audience to be mindful about Maya – the attachment we hold and the grip we are woven into. I want to experiment with diverse materials in the near future but keep my unique projection of the world alive – a world driven by Maya. The purpose of creating art is to talk about things greater than human understanding, to leave behind a message far greater than us. Art should lift your spirits and create an insatiable thirst to relive stories untold and how each story adds to another and how our stories too are linked to them in ways unknown.

In my ‘Hanumanji and Maya’ series I bring out forgotten stories, mythology that we wonder on with how and why. I have tried to make the imagination of these stories visually interesting with an Indian yet modern touch. My art still holds an old world charm that works like a Time Machine taking you to the past yet reminding you of your roots in the here and now.
