2020-11-07 20:30:00 2020-11-07 21:30:00 Asia/Kolkata Architecture of Ahmedabad: Miki Desai With Madhavi Desai

The walled city of Ahmedabad has been accorded the status of India’s first World Heritage City by UNESCO in 2017. Founded by Sultan Ahmed Shah in 1411, it has a rich architectural heritage, adding historical layers to it as it grew much beyond the inner core in the contemporary era. Called the Manchester of India in 1940s, the city also houses Mahatma Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram, from where he commenced his movement for India’s independence from the British Raj. The city has been greatly influenced, not only by artisans and craftsmen, but also by well-known Indian and global architects of the Modern Movement.

Architects and academicians Miki Desai, along with Madhavi Desai, both natives of Ahmedabad, will take you on a visual journey of exploring the living heritage of the fortified city and the modern developments, along with the historical, political and cultural nuances through architectural stories, anecdotes and memories.

In all an interesting way to learn about a city that one is living in or intending to visit.

At the end of the talk, do engage in a discussion with the architects.
This talk is for everyone, whether you have been living in આપણું અમદાવાદ, from years or are new to the city, or want to visit this destination, or have visited in the past there is something for everyone to cherish. Join in from whichever part of the world you are in, that’s the power of this digital virtual world. See you all!
