2019-11-14 21:00:00 2019-11-14 23:00:00 Asia/Kolkata Aakhu Aayakhu Farithi

Aakhu Aaykhu Farithi is an exploration of the trauma of an artist reliving her life through a play. The story is a play within a play. The first, is the story, one of three theatre people in a rehearsal space. The second layer is that of the play that they are rehearsing. The yet untitled play is a story of 3 people, Abha, Rohan, and Megha. Abha and Rohan were lovers, but due to unspecified circumstances, they were not able to marry each other and Rohan was being forced by his family to marry Megha. Abha suggested that Rohan spend 29 days of every month acting as a dutiful husband to Megha, but for one day, he was to spend the day with her. This reminds the actress Radhika of similar situations in her own life. The drama unfolds because of the tension between fact and fiction.

Hasmukh Baradi (1938-2017) has written numerous plays and have been performed widely in many Indian Languages. He wrote in Gujarati and his plays have been translated to English, Hindi, Maithali, Sindhi, Marwadi, Marathi, Tamil etc. An institution in himself, he has researched, created archives, edited longest surviving theatre quarterly in Gujarati, taught , performed, written plays, directed and produced numerous plays. He gave Gujrati theatre a whole new direction. He is recipient of CC Mehta life time achievement award (2000) and also NARMAD Award for playwriting (1999). He wrote “History of Gujarati Theatre” (National Book Trust, New Delhi, 1996).
