THE INTRINSIC VALUES OF OBJECTS are that they are non-threatening, absolutely ordinary and familiar to children.

THE WORKSHOP will focus on visual storytelling & communication at various levels with objects and materials found all

around us. The participants will be immersed in various levels of theatre making, story making and ideas communication

~ From original story-making, to story-boarding and converting their original stories into miniature theatres or walkthrough

landscapes ~ all with objects and materials that we consider utilitarian or sometimes useless. The objects &

materials may become representational or symbolic of the created stories & ideas, and the focus will remain on the depth

of process rather than the final product. The participants will experience how to communicate with objects and materials

to create layers of symbolic meaning. This type of theatre is simple, yet deeply poetic, deeply ironic, associative and

layered.

Workshop Objectives:

  • INTRODUCTION to Object Theatre.
  • Appreciation of the ‘ordinary’ and the ‘mundane’ things found around us in our daily lives.
  • Carrying an idea through from conception to conclusion
  • Creating original stories and ideas
  • Converting ideas into 2D & 3D visuals
  • Focusing on ‘Process Work’ rather than ‘product’
  • Focusing on group work as well as individual ideas
  • Connect our own thoughts, emotions, stories and expressions with our surroundings.
  • To recognise & unleash the inherent/hidden energy/quality of objects and material generally considered ‘ordinary’.
  • To be able to tell familiar and original stories through objects.
  • To open ourselves (as receptive audiences) to the varied interpretations and impressions of this form of storytelling
