Introduction:Phad painting or phad is a religious style folk painting, practised in southern parts of Rajasthan. This artwork is traditionally done on a piece of cloth or canvas, known as phad. The narratives of the folk deities of Rajasthan are depicted on the phads. The priest-singers (Bhopas) traditionally carry the painted phads along with them and use these as the mobile temples of the folk deities, who are worshipped by the Rebari community of the region. The phads vary in size, ranging between 15- 30 feet in length. Traditionally, the phads are painted with vegetable colors. The Joshi families in Shahpura in Bhilwara are known for the last two centuries for continuing to practice and restore this unique artform.
