Intensive Gazal Writing Workshop.

Ghazal, as a form of poetry, has been practiced since generations. It has traveled far; From the royal courts passing from the markets, streets, cinema, television and now on to our cellular phones. Facing many a hurdle & obstacles on the way, it has survived & evolved. A lot of times, we are even listening to one and not realising it’s a strain of a melody or form from eons ago.

This Ghazal Writing workshop will start from the basics of the form, it’s history and origin and will end with you getting a taste of writing one yourself. Even if you don’t write or intend to, this will sure give you a sense of appreciating it more in it’s true essence.

Contents of workshop :

* History & Origins
* Introduction to Basic Elements of Gazal
* Fundamentals of Meter (Beher)
* Actually Writing in Meter (Beher)

Knowledge of Hindi Script (Devnagri) is mandatory

The workshop will be conducted by Devroop Sharma

Devroop Sharma
A learned Shayar under the tutelage of Ustads like Tahir Faraz, Sagar Tripathi, Asad Ajmeri & Dr. Mohammed Azam, he simplifies the grammar and craft for the understanding of a novice.
Devroop combines simplicity of style with an evocative performance skill, making him a rather quotable shayar.
A well established Shayar, Urdu Theatre Practitioner and Salsa Dance Teacher. He is also the founder of the poetry community ‘Irshaad’
