Design Yatra stimulates the creative community!

Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IID) is a platform where space designers, affiliated professions, traders, artists and enthusiasts meet together, interact and help masses and society in terms of good designs. The institute keeps on cumulating socials, sessions and cluster of gatherings to amalgamate established creative minds, with aspiring ones. Their main focus revolves around society and they always strive to help it with new ideas and initiatives. It achieves its objectives through continuous activities spread across various chapters and centers across the nation.

The so far journey of Design Yatra (DY), which is a cluster of events formed to enhance creativity through inspiration, exploration and contribution has been a fruitful venture. Their initiatives in the events like meeting the delegates of the city and seeding the solution towards the architectural loopholes in civic infrastructure and generating inspiration from the really experienced ones like Dr. B.V Doshi have been tremendously productive. The motive of Design Yatra is to connect likeminded aesthetics together; a social with the students of United Design Institute gave birth to a Design Competition for aspirants who were willing to contribute in this design spree.

While on 15^th June a panel discussion moderated by Amit Sheth was organized at AMA. During this discussion 6 panellists coming from varied professional fields met and discussed how change in design can really affect masses. The panellist list included Abhishek Jain (Film maker), Rajeeka Kacheria (IT Cell Convenor BJP, Gujarat), Rajesh Sagara (Artist Faculty @CEPT), Sunil Parekh (Corporate Advisor), Mona Khandhar (IAS Officer) and Chaitanya Rele (Designer Strategist). The discussion initiated with a macro and micro subject like furniture designs & improvements in them, affordable housing designs, public places that can be designed to attract people, Ahmedabad heritage sites conservation, why people need to understand what they actually need, design aesthetics and creativity with durability, improvement in government initiatives in terms of design & creation and various other topics. All in all in was a stimulating session that has generated good momentum to carry forward for the betterment of public spaces. The next day talk with Mr. Surendra Patel, who collected more than 1400 chairs from across the globe at Vishala Museum, was a life time experience for all the attendees.

Design Yatra was initiated on 11^th June and will culminate on 23^rd June. The upcoming line up of events include happenings like meeting local trade partners, talk with YUVA on sanitation at municipal schools, a discussion on ‘design and simplicity’ at Gandhi Ashram, craft conversation with Ms. Aanar Patel, Design Competition presentation & prize distribution and of course a Finale Night.

So people of Ahmedabad, fasten your seat belts and get ready to experience the flooding creativity this June only with Design Yatra, taking design to masses.
