If you happen to be in Charlotte this week, then do not miss out on these creative events. Spend your time in an enriching way by engaging in music, art, performances, and nature rich events happening in your neighbourhood.
The atmosphere is scenic and mood is vibrant for using the week for nature excursions, as the 51st Charlotte Art Weekly would suggest you to. This week there are more than three nature-friendly events featured in the CAW. The engaging nature photography exhibition and the botanical art show are gracing the visual art fraternity, whereas the hummingbird exploration tour is helping children to spend time in nature’s lap. Jumping from the environment to the groove, musical community of the city can enjoy some excellent Latin jazz with their loved ones or go for some local folk-rock melodies presented by local musicians. If you are willing to hear something from within the community, then go to the Rock N Blues concert which is being performed by the young students of Community School of the Arts. The culture explorers can go to The Mint Museum to know the work of docents and learn to be one, or they can also go and get messy while creating artistic elements. But if you are not looking for any adventure and are in an absolute laid-back mood, then the open to air movie screening of Ferdinand is a recommendation.
In this week’s Charlotte Art Weekly we are talking about American trumpeter, flugelhornist, cornetist, composer, educationist, musician and bandleader Woody Shaw. Born in 1944 in Laurinburg, North Carolina, Shaw began his musical journey at the tender age of 9 by playing the bugle. He later formally learnt trumpet at Juilliard School of music under the tutelage of trumpeter William Vacchiano and started playing jazz at nightclubs, marriages and events. Shaw debuted recording with Iron Man and later formed a band with organist Larry Young, drummer Billy Brooks, and saxophonist Nathan Davis to travel all across Europe. The master of modality had this unique aspect of taking wide intervals while keeping it melodic and he improvised by using two tonalities or keys at once. As an educator, Shaw has taught music to luminaries including Chris Botti, Wallace Roney, and Terence Blanchard. The two times Grammy nominated and frequently titled as the Best Trumpeter has produced remarkable records naming Dat Dere, Katrina Ballerina, The Moontrane, Theme of Maxine and various others.
