Rain gods enviously disrupted plans for a repeat of Darpana Academy’s celebratory performance Mother River at Natarani last Saturday. You know Mallika Sarabhai’s obduracy (read steadfastness) anyway! Performing art lovers have another kind of absorbing experience in store – an exclusive western music concert offered by the famous Symphony Orchestra of India associated with the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai. Symphony in fact promises to enthrall Ahmedabad audiences once every month at Natarani.
At the inaugural performance, the audience was thrilled to have a taste of western Symphonic strains played on the violin and the piano. Now on 28th of this month, hold your breath, a full-fledged 22-member Symphonic Orchestra will be on the spacious inviting stage playing the likes of Wolfgang Motzart (Divertimento in D Major), Johann Sebastian Bach (Orchestral Suite No.2 in minor), Antonio Vivaldi (The Storm), Felix Mendelssohn (String Symphony), Tchaikovsky (Valse) and quite a few others. The conductor of the orchestra will be Evgenil Bushkov, who is spectacular whether with the baton or the violin in hand.
Khushroo Suntok, Director of NCPA, is said to be as much excited about the collaboration as listeners at Natarani would be this Friday, and every month. Welcome, Symphony Orchestra! Kudos to Mallika and Natarani for the gesture of declaring the event FREEE FOR EVERYONE! (COLLECT PASSES FROM DARPANA OFFICE.)
