What’s happening this week in Charlotte city? Catch the acclaimed Carole King musical ‘Beautiful’ or a night of comedy in a library. There’s also musical nights ranging from rock folk to country, and the choice to spend a day exploring the world of Engineering with your kids.
Thousands of years ago, the Catawba Native Americans were the first indigenous tribe to have settled in the vicinity of Charlotte. Besides their sporting activities of fishing and hunting, the Catawba women were – and still are – incredibly dexterous in the art of pottery and basket-making. It would seem that Charlotte has been thriving in a culture of creativity since a long time indeed! The Charlotte Art Weekly is just a reminder of this for the city’s denizens, an opportunity to reflect back on one’s roots.
This week, Charlotte will experience a fresh display of creativity through enticing drama, exciting music concerts, thought-provoking art and literature meetups and a day spent exploring engineering with adults and kids alike. Make most of this week by having a look at our 44th Art Weekly.
William Oliver Swofford, popularly known as Oliver, is the inspiration for our 44th CAW. The American pop singer became a household name after the release of his hit album Good Morning Starshine, which became his first record to sell a million copies, and earned him a Gold Disc by the RIAA. Oliver continued to belt out music in his albums Again, The Best of Oliver and Prisms. His singles Jean, Sunday Mornin and Early Morning Rain took him to the pinnacle of his career. Oliver, who left the music industry in the 80’s for the construction and pharmaceutical industries, is still enlisted in the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame. His soulful voice still echoes in the hearts of his many fans.
This week, the most creative events happening in Charlotte are:
