Things to Do in Charlotte NC This Week: Charlotte Art Weekly #39

This week, Charlotte city should look out for the Charlotte Asian Film Festival, a musical called ‘Waitress’ and a night of Indian classical music with Grammy award-winning Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt.

 

The second edition of the Charlotte Asian Film Festival has been scheduled for March 23 and 24 at the University of North Carolina. This year, too, the festival will screen the most enriching films from Asia, for US audiences. Our Charlotte Art Weekly brings under a single roof the various other multicultural activities happening in the city that combine creativity and innovation. This time, we bring you the 39th Art Weekly featuring the most creative events of the week.

Our inspiration for this week is American jazz percussionist and musician Maxwell Lemuel Roach, who is fondly known as Max Roach. One of the most significant drummers of the industry, he pioneered the bebop genre. An activist, he composed music concerning the Civil Rights Movement. Roach has been honoured with various international awards, and been featured in the Down Beat Hall of Fame and the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame. He formed his band with trumpeter Clifford Brown and percussionist ensemble M’Boom and his most famous albums are We Insist!, Money Jungle, Daahoud, Drums Unlimited and Percussion Bitter Sweet.
