What's it like when two generations of designers practise together? Find out in this IIID talk

This IIID gathering is bringing together 5 twin-generation designers of Ahmedabad. Find out what it’s like to ‘Design Across Generations’ in this talk happening today.

The Ahmedabad Regional Chapter of the Institute of Indian Interior Designers is enthusiastic about its 6th season as it invites five twin-generation designers in Ahmedabad to talk about ‘Design Across Generations’. The five families will be presenting their views on ‘Design Across Generations’ in this three-hour long design summit. They will not only be presenting their body of work and ideas, but will also be talking about the advantages and challenges faced when two creative generations practise under a single roof. To be held today, on September 8, at Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat, the initiative is part of the Institute of Indian Interior Designers’ efforts to support the field of interior design in India.

The event will be graced by the presence of fraternity patron Rajesh Vaswani, Director of Venus Group, as well as several interior designers and architects of Ahmedabad. Hiren Patel has been practising architecture since 1989, and now that his daughter Anushree Patel has joined Hiren Patel Architects, the design aesthetics of the firm have evolved by integrating her perspective. Listen to the father-daughter duo talk about the differences and similarities shared between them.

Architect Navin Ghoricha and his son Yagnesh Ghoricha, who have been running Ghoricha Associates over the past four decades, will be sharing thoughts on their residential and commercial projects. The father-son duo of Samir and Darsh Dave, who have completed more than 1500 projects in Mumbai, Delhi and Ahmadabad so far under the banner of Hari Associates, will also be partaking in the design conclave.

The stage will also be shared by generations of designers who’ve graduated from the reputed CEPT University, with Shaili Banker joining her father and brother Vipool and Naman Shah. Father Vipool Shah has been practising in the industry since more than 43 years now and his two children have both gone on to study urban management and architecture design at the Domus Academy in Italy. Bela Patel and her daughter Chandni, who run a 22-year-old practice called Studio Abhinay, will also be presenting their artistic approaches towards interior architecture.

The doors are open for all visitors today, including non-members of IIID and students, for a price of Rs 500 and Rs 200 respectively.
