Vancouver Mural Art Festival is Back With a Colourful Bang!

The Vancouver Mural Festival is back with a bang as the city’s most enthralling free public art celebration, where artists from Canada and around the globe participate in designing art on the walls of Vancouver. The unique art festival initiated its first edition last year, and received tremendous outcome of 40 murals, against the planned 20. In its second year the Vancouver Mural Festival aims to go bigger, with more murals and more collateral events to compliment the festival. This year the festival shall showcase 60 wall artworks. This shall be achieved even though the City Authorities has reduced the funding from $200,000 to $100,000. The Festival organisers say that there has been a buoyant response from the community, and new sources of funding have opened up to keep up with Festivals growing needs. The Festival will be in progress from August 7 to 12, and this year the artists are arriving from Canada, Spain, New Zealand and various other countries.

The Festival will be graced by various other activities like live music, mural walking tours, a beer garden, and artistic talks on varied subjects. The Vancouver Mural Festival, is as much about reclaiming lost spaces, as much as it is about public art. The Vancouver Mural Festival with its first edition has demonstrated the power of Public Art to enhance the sense of community among the citizens. It also builds pride among the citizens for their forgotten spaces.

All in all it is a fantastic event that gives every citizen of the city an opportunity to engage with art in an interesting atmosphere.
