Kala Mahakumbh registrations are open: Calling talented artists across 29 Gujarati art forms

Local folk artists, musicians, performers and theatre artists can register for the mega event until July 15, 2018. 

To appreciate local folk artists, musicians, performers and theatre artists of the culturally rich state of Gujarat, the State Government has again organised a major series of competitions called Kala Mahakumbh 2018-19. The competition is open for all and is accepting registrations online from July 3 to July 15, 2018. If one prefers to register offline, they can visit the Ravishankar Raval Kala Bhavan in Ahmedabad and fill out the form, which is available at no cost.

The competitions will be held at the taluka level (July 16 to 22), district level (Jul 17 to August 5), regional level (August 8 to 19) and state level (September 4 to 10). These will be followed by an annual performance and prize distribution ceremony later this year. The organisers are accepting registrations from participants across separate age groups: 6 years to 14 years, 15 years to 20 years, 21 to 59 years, and above 60 years.

The state government is promoting 29 art forms through the Kala Mahakumbh, which includes seven new additions this year: group marriage song singing, Jodiya Pava playing, Sarod playing, Sarangi playing, Ravanahatha playing, Bhavai performances and Kuchipudi performances. A staggering number of entries was received for the competition last year – 17,000 in total. Out of these, 11,000 local artists gained the opportunity to exhibit their creative works on stage.
