Know what’s keeping superhero fans on their toes and why the much-anticipated sequel promises to be the most epic experience for viewers.
Every comic fan’s dream is about to come true with the Marvel Cinematic Universe having scheduled its nineteenth mega film in the superhero series for release on April 27, 2018. The maddest villain of all time, Thanos, faces a showdown with 76 superheroes after arriving on earth to accumulate six Infinity Stones in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’. With a staggering budget of $300 million, this is by far the most expensive movie in the Marvel superhero franchise, and also the most eagerly anticipated.
Viewers are sure to be in for a joyful theatre experience, given that the film has an incomparably luminary ensemble cast, is directed by the Russo brothers who have enchanted us before with films like Captain America: Civil War and Captain America: Winter Soldier, has music by Alan Silvestri, and has cinematography by Trent Opaloch. But what makes this film a larger-than-life creation? Why is Avengers: Infinity War Marvel Studios‘ most awaited film of the decade? Although all these questions have already been answered by Entertainment Weekly in a dedicated edition with a three-page report on the film, here are some awe-inspiring facts and conjectures about the film that you ought to know before entering the movie theatre.
Filmmakers have seeded several movies in the franchise revolving around the various Avengers characters in order to create a background for Infinity War. This film’s release will mark the culmination of an entire decade that’s gone into meticulously building up this fantasy world. The major link connecting many of the storylines in the franchise is that of the Infinity Stones, which have surfaced in many of the films in the series, including Thor, Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy. Each of the stone’s powers is portrayed in these films. And all this knowledge comes together for the first time in Avengers: Infinity War, with Thanos wanting to gain power by gaining hold of all six Infinity Stones. No wonder this is the most awaited film of the year!
According to actor Chris Hemsworth (Thor), the 2 hr 36 minutes-long film is likely to depict a total of 76 original comic-book characters, with rumours claiming that a few new superheroes will be introduced. This may include Captain Marvel, played by the talented Brie Larson and Thanos’ child Black Order. But Jos Russo, one of the co-directors of the film, announced, “I believe that everything has to have an end at some point in order for it to have value.” One wonders whether he is hinting at the death of one of the franchise’s Big Three – The Hulk, Ironman or Captain America? The film, written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, does draw its inspiration from Jim Starlin’s comic book The Infinity Gauntlet and Jonathan Hickman’s Infinity, in which characters frequently expire only to return in the future, like Loki who sacrificed himself for his brother Thor in two films only to come back again in the sequels. There is no potential proof, however, that one of the Three will fatally face the brunt of Thanos’ rage. Only time will tell the tale here.
It was in 2008 that Marvel first decided to introduce the comic-book characters of Ironman and The Hulk into motion pictures. Though successful as individual films, the people’s love towards these superheroes gained new heights when the first Avengers film became the first Marvel production to earn $1 billion at the box office. Curiously though, most of the comic-book superheroes look rather different from their film counterparts, and even their superpowers are a little different. While the Infinity War will be narrated in two film parts, the original Infinity War is actually a six-series comic book edition penned by Jim Starlin and pencilled by Ron Lim, Ian Laughlin, Al Milgrom, Jack Morelli and Christie Scheele, which was compiled in a 400-page paperback book in April 2006. It is only after the film’s release that fans will come to know how different the plot of the film is from that of the comic books.
It’s official: the Russo brothers are the first American filmmakers to shoot an entire Hollywood film exclusively using IMAX/ARRI Cameras in 70mm print film format. The 4th Avengers movie will have a real IMAX aspect ratio (1.90:1). This takes the Russo brothers a leap beyond director Christopher Nolan, who pioneered IMAX technologies to shoot films like The Dark Knight Rises and Dunkirk. Audiences can expect a life-sized screen experience comprising of breath-taking landscapes with crystal clear colours and textures. The directors have already worked with the ARRI 65 camera in the film Civil War, and are dexterous with the technology. The film is sure to be a must-watch IMAX experience, even if it burns a hole in one’s pocket!
Humans survive on curiosity as much as they do on oxygen. To all those curious Marvel fans who are not content with the arrival of this film alone, rest assured that the sequel of Avengers: Infinity War has already been scheduled to hit theatres on May 3, 2019. The crew has already ended most of the production procedures under the temporary banner of ‘The untitled Avengers sequel’. The Russo brothers embarked on a back-to-back filming technique, whereby both films were ideated under a single production line, but the making of the sequel was planned to begin from August 2017. Anthony Russo stated that the two films were shot separately because “these are two different entities and not one single film split into two segments,” while speaking to entertainment portal ComingSoon.
As an additional bit of trivia, in a concept art for the film, Thor can be seen to be welding and modifying his hammer Mjolnir, which means he is getting a brand-new weapon after his last one was destroyed in Thor: Ragnarok. Spiderman also seems to get a new costume this time. The list of fascinating facts and tales for Avengers is endless!
CreativeYatra recommends this epic film as a must-watch for comic book buffs.
