Charlotte has been having wonderfully enriching weeks filled with lot of cultural confluences and creative events. This week is no different. Some wonderful music events, theatre programs and arts events are lined up for every charlottean to experience and enrich herself. The weekend brings with it the festive flavour of Christmas, as it marks the beginning of December. We are sure creativity inclined citizens will appreciate visiting these events spread across the city.
The 25th edition of Charlotte Art Weekly is dedicated to Don Gibson. Born in Shelby, North Carolina, Gibson is among the most loved singer and songwriter of America. He has ruled the music charts for almost two decades from mid 50’s to mid 70’s, with chart-busters like “Oh Lonesome me”, “Blue Blue Day”, “There’s a Story goin’ round” and many more. His consistent popularity and songwriting art got his a space in the Country Music Hall of Fame. He is also referred as ‘The Sad Poet’ as most of his songs are about lonesomeness and expressions of love. His most famous song “I can’t stop loving you”, holds a unique credential of being among the song with most cover versions. As much as 700 artists have recorded this single, which includes notable artists like Ray Charles and UB40. The authorities of North Carolina honoured the artist by establishing a top class music hall and naming it ‘Don Gibson Theatre’.
