Celebrating 15 Years of Crraft of Art: A Symphony of Heritage, Music, and Light

This November, Crraft of Art marks 15 years of reviving India’s heritage through its unique blend of music, light, and cultural experiences. The much-anticipated Water Festival, set to take place at the iconic Adalaj Ni Vav on Sunday, November 24, 2024, epitomizes this remarkable journey of reconnecting people with history.

The festival, themed “Drums of India”, promises to immerse audiences in the rhythm of traditional Indian percussion, paired with the breathtaking ambiance of the historic stepwell. Crraft of Art continues to uphold its mission of “Celebrating Monuments with Music,” ensuring that heritage sites come alive in new and meaningful ways.

Founded by Bharatanatyam and folk dancer Birwa Qureshi, Crraft of Art has spent the past decade and a half reintroducing historic landmarks to contemporary audiences, especially the younger generation. By combining music, innovative lighting, and immersive storytelling, the organization has breathed life into these ancient sites, making them resonate with their former grandeur.

The Water Festival 2024 will feature an array of celebrated artists. Tabla maestro Ustad Fazal Qureshi, carrying forward his family’s legacy of Indian classical percussion, will headline the event. Accompanying him will be vocal virtuoso Vijay Prakash, sarangi maestro Dilshad Khan, and percussionists like Sridar Parthasarathy on mridangam and Uma Shankar on ghatam. The lineup also includes Navin Sharma on dholak, Vijay Chavan on dholki, Khete Khan on khartal, and renowned instrumentalists like Gino Banks on drums and Rhythm Shaw on guitar.

Adding to the cultural richness will be performances by the Veergarjana Dhol Tashe Pathak and the Purulia Chhau Dance Academy, offering a dynamic mix of sound and movement. Actor Sandhya Mridul, celebrated for her work in television, film, and theatre, will host the event, adding a touch of grace to the evening.

The festival will also showcase the intricate beauty of Adalaj Ni Vav through creative lighting, enhancing its architectural details and imbuing it with mystique.

Over the past 15 years, Crraft of Art, supported by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), has hosted 35 heritage festivals across Gujarat and Maharashtra.
