Celebrating World Social Media Day 2017 at Ahmedabad

The 5th season of ‘World Social Media Day’, organised by ReDi, since 2013, happened on 30th June at Novotel in Ahmedabad. Digital Enthusiasts, Social Media jockeys and Technologists within the field of internet flocked at Novotel to witness panel discussions, open Q&A forums and other talk shows. The participant delegates were coming from organisations such as Amul, Reliance Industries Ltd, UNICEF, Facebook, Culture Machine and other social media influencing companies.

Discussions on topics such as online safety and cyber bullying and cyber stalking were proved to be the key features of the session moderated by Dr Manjula Pooja Shroff, MD and CEO of Kalorex Group. Discussion workshop on e-commerce by Simol Bhansali, founder of saree.com, and Jaydip Parikh founder of TejSolPro accompanying with the founder of Instagram Ahmedabad, Aersh Ahmed, saw most attendees.

Stephanie Joy Raison, the communications specialist at UNICEF, explained how monitored internet exposure to children could help them in developing their horizon of knowledge, and Rajat Arora, the policy programs manager, India and South Asia, Facebook, explains, “It took 60 years for Television to reach 1 billion viewers, and only 6 years for smartphones to reach 6 billion users. Humans love interacting, and that’s what is helping social media to grow, the need for building communities around us provokes it.”

The sessions were interactive and enriching and the last speaker, CEO of Culture Machine, kept an open offer for listeners’ during the Q&A section saying, “If you are innovative and have unique ideas, come to us, we will make them work.”

While the traditional  companies are still trying to get a hang of the utility and advantage of Social Media, such an event would have surely helped a few.
