Interconnect is All About Nature And Its Creations!

It’s an exclusive show of bronze sculptures. It’s also an exclusive show of artworks focused on ecological and environmental concerns by a young but certainly and totally a committed artist. Enter K R Nariman with her third solo show of bronze sculptures in the third city of her fancy – your apnu Amdavad! The show comes to the Heritage City after its successful runs in Delhi – the city where Nariman resides and works from – and Mumbai.

Titled “Interconnect” this show is all set to open to public on Saturday at Hutheesing Centre and will put on display scores of exquisite bronze works created by Nariman over the last few years since she passed out her Masters; in fact some of it was created even before. There will also be a special preview and a Walk with the Artist on Sunday, the 12fth March.

Qualified with a Master’s degree from London’s University of Arts in 2019 and having apprenticed in many forms of expression with several accomplished sculptors, pottery & woodwork artists and even painters, Nariman sees a visible or invisible bond between all creatures of the planet earth and believes they are all interdependent; survival of one species depends on the equally acceptable and honorable survival of the other. Hence the need to respect life in all forms and maintain the balance of ecological forces, believes the young artist.

It’s this belief that inspires her to create a peepal, nay “people’s tree” on one side as the life-giver living organism and a vulture on the other side, which is threatened with extinction due to Diclofenac poisoning of animal carcasses, something the vultures feed on; a situation of existential crisis for this natural scavenger made by the modern day medical science!

Nariman’s other eye catching creations in this three-part show of exhibits include the family or mother-children series in the “Human segment, which also underscores the natural bond of love and interconnectedness; the birds in motion and horses that depict even greater force of kinetic motion and energy for the mankind in the “Animals segment” and works like Bare, Quiver Tree, Leafless and Windswept in the “Tree segment” apart from the People’s Tree!

The creatures in these three segments are all connected with each other as mankind is adept to harness and take benefit of animals’ energies in many forms of movement and transport including the mounted forces and thrives on trees and vegetation for its needs of life giving oxygen, nourishment by way of fruits, vegetables and medicines and much more in the form of fodder or wood.

The visitors to the show will also see two video installations on these aspects of artiste’s vision and concerns, as also a video on the elaborate and time consuming process of making the bronze sculptures. The ‘Shadow Installation’ with mini sculptures of about eighty horses particularly presents an enchanting visual aesthetic to relish and enjoy.

Nariman has also brought to her sculptures the trend and practice of multiple production of replicas of the same artwork by making resort to what is well known for paintings as “limited edition” creativity. This she explains is obviously possible for small or mid-sized works and not for giant works like the People’s Tree!

Dwelling on Nature for her expressive motivations and committed to ecological and environmental concerns, Artist Nariman also follows sustainable practices through the Mantra of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle in all her artistic and professional endeavours.

The show is beautifully arranged with distinct sections and partitions on the floor of the gallery, for which the curator, the artist and hosts-arrangers-organizers of the Hutheesing Centre must be complimented.
