Mukesh J. Thakkar, took to photography on his retirement from civil service. He joined the Navgujarat Multi Course Institute in Ahmedabad and started his journey as a photographer. In a short span of time, he has earned numerous awards and recognition at various state and national level competitions and forums.
This album is a documentation of the rigorous routine of water fetcher’s – called Panihari’s in local language. In many villages, even today, the need for water is served by a single well, which is located far off from their homes. Which means a daily trip of 3-4 kms (two ways) on the feet, with two pots of water on head. This chore is carried out by the women folk in every village and is a significant aspect of their every day routine.
In the album, in a step by step manner, the viewer will get to see the entire process of how they bring the water to their homes.
While for most of us in the city, water is just a tap away, this album might just sensitize towards the importance of water as a resource.
