Among the foremost author and journalist of the 20th century Gujarati literature, Harkisan Mehta is known for his serialised novels that appeared in Chitralekha, a gujarati weekly magazine, which are till date being adapted for television series. He had a very novel way to titling his stories using two words, some of the popular ones are Lay-Pralay, Shesh-Vishesh, Vansh-Varas, Mukti-Bandhan, Bhagya-Saubhagya etc.
He also held the prestigious position of editorship of Chitralekha after the demise of founder Vaju Kotak. AAW 91 pays respects to the great litterateur for his original work.
