October has been a month of celebrations and festivity. With the conclusion of the 9 days Navratri festival of dance, people are already occupied with the Diwali preparations now. But we still have a lot to offer for Ahmedabad’s curious creatures. The 80th Ahmedabad Art Weekly shows an upsurge in music concerts with artists experimenting with varied genres during their show. Also, some of the unique painting shows and photography exhibitions are on a display for its spectators to get enriched. An exhibition showcasing internationally acclaimed architecture designs at CEPT, an exciting action film screening and a talk show of renowned speakers has been organized at Indian Institute of Ahmedabad this week.
The 3rd poet and also the inspiration for the 80th Ahmedabad Art Weekly is none other than Barkatali Gulamhussain Virani alias Befaam. This 19th-century Gujarat-born prominent author, poet, and gazalkar has contributed tremendously in the vernacular Gujarati literature. A celebrated lyricist who wrote some of the history’s most unforgettable songs like ‘Nayanne Bandh Rakhine’, ‘Thay Sarkhamni to Utarata Chhie’ and ‘Milan na Deepak Sahu Buzai Gaya Che’, has even published many poetry anthologies during the 19th century. He was associated with Gujarati cinema and has appeared in movies like Mangalfera, Akhand Subhagyavati, Kulvadhu, Jalam Sang Jadeja and Snehbandhan. ‘Befam’ has left immense poetic treasure for us to enrich ourselves. Creative Yatra pays tribute to Befam’s literature with this week’s Ahmedabad Art Weekly.
