AAW #77

The city recitalists have caught a tremendous pace, we literally had a frog in the throat while shortlisting the events this week. The inexhaustible talent source of the city was showering with creative gigs and we grievously had to shortlist only a limited number of events among them within our 77th Ahmedabad Art Weekly.

With this increasing number of art, music, film screening, stand up comedy performances, theatricals, literature events and various other happenings, it is significant that the city not only has proficient performers but also plentiful highly enthusiastic, mood elevating audience too. It’s necessary to get high on the talent next door and not just stay cemented with the mainstream humdrum performances. We are more than happy glancing the  audience beamingly accepting the novice and emerging acrobats.

AAW 77 is dedicated to the Bhoomiputra of Gujarat, Shree Narayan Desai who was one of the few contemporary Gandhian philosophy followers till his last breath. As a son of Gandhiji’s personal secretary, Mahadevji Desai, Narayan won Sahitya Akademi Award and Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak for his contribution to the Gujarati Language. A messiah for poor Narayan Bhai had an active participation in Vinobha Bhave’s Bhoodan Movement and for that, he also won UNESCO prize for international peace. Among all his endeavors the most cherished contribution is his performance of ‘Gandhi Katha’, his translucent presentation of the story of Mahatma, that has influenced thousands. The nation will forever be in debt for Narayanji’s tremendous literary and nationalistic contribution to the society.
