It’s quite an eventful week here for folks in Ahmedabad.

The state is celebrating its Foundation day as ‘Gujarat Gaurav Divas’ on May 1 and as part of it a three day Aero Show is organised on Sabarmati Riverfront. The show in its second consecutive year, was very well taken by the citizens. The weekly has the details of the show and its timings.

That apart, the weekend also celebrates International Dance Day, and the AAW has two interesting dance performances to offer. One is the premier of the Dance adaptation of Chitra Banerjee DivaKaruni’s ‘Palace of Illusion’ and other is a two day fest at Nrityabharti. Both this events are highly recommended by Team CY.

In this AAW we pay tribute to Kavi Narmad (Narmadashankar Lalshankar Dave), the pioneering author from 19th century Surat. Narmad is well known for his unique work in field of Poetry and Essay writing as much as his contribution to journalism. But the most significant reason for us to remember him this week, the week of Gujarat’s Foundation Day, is for his most popular creation ‘Jai Jai Garvi Gujarat’. This song penned by Narmad infuses a sense of pride in every Gujarati, and his words invokes in the listener, irrespective of their castes or sects, to feel pride towards the uniqueness of the Gujarati Culture. While we celebrate the foundation day of the state, which is primarily based on language as a distinctive parameter, it is apt that we remember this legendary poet for his great body of work, which still, manages to infuse pride in every Gujarati.
