Take out time for some truly original creative content in Ahmedabad. This weekend, the revered Gulzar Sahib is arriving with his mesmerising poems. If you are a theatre enthusiast, don’t miss Because I Was Not Guilty, a performance to be held at a local auditorium today, April 13. Art-lovers have the golden opportunity to visit either a postcard-based visual art exhibition at Satya Art Gallery, or the exhibition Horizon at Amdavad Ni Gufa. Delhi-based artist Baaraan Ijlal is also bringing her unique creations to the city.

The inspiration for our 155th AAW is Gujarati literature critic Narsinhrao Divetia, whose contribution as a poet and linguist has been profound. While studying BA in Sanskrit at Elphinstone College, Divetia was bestowed with the Bhau Dajee Prize for academic excellence. He later pursued the Indian Statutory Civil Service, where he was appointed as an Assistant Collector. He later became the chairman of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad and a fellow of the Bombay branch of Royal Asiatic Society. He pioneered the western style of lyric-writing in Gujarati literature, and his most famous anthologies are Kusumamala, followed by Hridyavina, Sarjatraini Sushupti, Nupurzankar, and Smaran-Sanhita. He wrote an essay collection called Vivartleela under the pen name of Gyanbal, and his most famous critical essay collection Manomukur comprises of four volumes. Divetia translated Edwin Arnold’s The Light of Asia into Gujarati and as a linguist, his contributions are the Wilson Philological Lectures Part 1 and Part 2.
