This week we have been inspired by educationist and songstress Usha Chinoy of Rajkot. Started her career with Young India with original records in 1940, her voice became the mesmerising music chanting across India after her feature at Doordarshan and All India Radio. She performed a variety of genres including Urdu ghazals, bhajans, thumris, Gujarati folk songs and light music. She was the founding head of Department of Arts, Crafts and Music, Rajkot and later went to musicology gathering of Experiment in International Living program, USA. Her granddaughter author-poet Vaidya Shastri Manishankar Govindji established the renowned Atank Nigrah pharmacy.
