This week Ahmedabad Art Weekly is dedicated to Ravji Patel the modernist Gujarati poet, writer and novelist who was born in Anand city of Gujarat and was a second-year college dropout from the Arts College due to financial constraints. He was the co-editor of poetry journal Shabda. He was a lyricist and also produced songs including Mari Aankhe Kankuna Suraj Athamya. He also authored popular Gujarati Novels – notable among which are Jhanza, Vrutti ane Varta and an incomplete story Vrutti and wrote a one-act play called Rakh Pan Bole Chhe. He was honoured with accolade Uma-Snehrashmi Prize, and he is considered to be the pioneer of modern Gujarati literature.
