This week’s Ahmedabad Art Weekly is in remembrance of Nanalal Dalpatram Kavi a notable author and poet who amplified Gujarati literature with his flawless scripts. Born in 1877 Nanalal was the fourth son of great poet Kavi Dalpatram and became the establisher of contemporary Gujarati poetry. Working with the British government in pre-independence era, Nanalal left the job as soon as Mahatma Gandhi launched the non-cooperation movement and wrote a perfect poem regarding him as the Hermit of Gujarat on his 50th birth anniversary. His works like Hari Lilamrat, which is one of the supreme most literature in Swaminarayan religion and Vishva Gita are gems for vernacular Gujarati. His one of the greatest prayers ‘Asatyo Mahethi’ is still sung in school and is reminisced by all.
