Goodbye Ganesha - Ganesh Visarjan

The ten days festivity of Ganesh Chaturthi has come to an end on ‘Anant Chaturdashi’, i.e. September 6, 2017. This year with the grace of Lord Ganesha the weather is pleasant and more than 7600 Ganesha idols installed in the public places and more than 1 lakh idols settled at home will be immersed in the water during the Visarjan ceremony in Ahmedabad. The commemoration is highly spirited amongst devotees, and authorities urge people to be safe during the procession. As per reports more than 11 people across India have lost their lives during the process of procession and immersion. The idols are designed in varied poses as per the trend, for example, the idols in Hyderabad were wearing a helmet during the Visarjan to spread the message of Road Safety amongst people, and the Bahubali juxtaposing sculptures of Ganesha showcased the fad of the film across India. Feasts are organised, and roads have been blocked for safe celebrations by the authorities.

It is said that Ganesh Chaturthi became a key commemoration after Indian freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak organised one such gathering in 1897 to outwit the ban on Hindu gatherings during the Colonial British Raj. The most notable form of Ganesha is the Lalbaugcha Raja, and other biggest ones are visible in the state of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh.
