Vikram Sarabhai 's 98th Birth Anniversary Commemoration at CN Fine Arts

Prolific scientist Vikram Sarabhai, who also served as one of the board members of Sheth Chimanlal Nagindas Vidyalaya, Ahmedabad was recently honoured with an exclusively dedicated exhibition, where the students of both arts and science streams amalgamated their skills to create a scenario of celebration on August 12, 2017, at the CN Fine Arts campus.

It was an extravaganza of innovation, where artists of Sheth CN College of Fine Arts carved sculptures, artworks, sand art and photographs based on the life, work and achievements of the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan scientist. Whereas the high school students of one of the oldest institutions of Ahmedabad, CNV, awe-stricken the audience with experiments and projects dedicated to the social and environmental welfare. The scientific exhibition was a part of the science fair, and the festivity celebrated the 98th birth anniversary of Vikram Sarabhai, father of India’s Space Programme.

Born in 1919 in Ahmedabad, Sarabhai was born to the renowned industrialist family but opted to contribute the society through a role of a social reformer who reshaped the modern society especially after the Indian Independence Movement. He founded the Physical Research Laboratory, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, assisted in the foundation of Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, and setup the first rocket launching station in India at Thumba, Thiruvananthapuram.

The programme was inaugurated by his son Kartikeya Sarabhai, the founder director of Centre for Environment Education with a heartening sermon on his father’s life. With such vividity, where thousands of aspiring young minds were witnessing the fury of innovation, it furthermore, grew from an informational showcase to a life-sized Carnival.
