Expression of imagination and experiences : Povera!

On a pleasant Saturday evening, some 30 people gathered at the Project cafe in Amdavad becuse they believed that everybody can write and those who write are to be encouraged. Nine of them participated, after a prior registration and recited their poems. In the one hour time given to the them, they wrote a poetry- not on common words, but words chosen from the Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows. “We have pre-defined notions for words we have commonly heard and so we chose invented words , so there is freedom in flow of thoughts over it”, said Priyal Thakkar, one of the organisers. Aditya Mankad, another organiser shared, “We want to encourage the belief that anyone can write; we are thinking to organise workshops on improv poetry by people from Banglore, Mumbai as well.”

Apart from the two organisers the event was embellished by enthusiastic young poets who took the challenge of creating a poetry in 60 minutes. Himanshu Nainani, Darshita Jain, Yash Parikh, Protyay Chakraborty, Apoorva Sharma, Abhingam Majumdar and Ayesha Khan Raval formed the line up. A few used sarcasm to present thoughts in form of poem, while a few used humour. Language ofcourse wasn’t a barrier. The evening also had a performer from the audience, who represented the Delhi Poetry slam.

Those present in audience provided the necessary fuel, read applause, to let this locomotive of Poetry sail smoothly in the surreal realms of imagination. With young enthusiasts, Amdavad and Amdavadis seem to widen their horizons over various forms of art.
