Celebrating a decade of Gujarat Kala Pratisthan: Exhibits of 145 Amdavadi artists

As Gujarat Kala Pratishthan completed a decade of its functioning, 10 art celebrations are scheduled in different cities of Gujarat. Exhibition of 145 Amdavadi artists at Ravishankar Raval Kalabhavan, Ellisbridge was a part of these 10 celebrations. Amdavadi exhibition is the seventh in line. Gujarat Kala Pratishthan, based in Surat, has been working tirelessly for the development of art and artists in the society.

“This is genuine effort to build a suitable environment for art- wherein artists, art lovers, critics, students can come together. The number of people appreciating art works and buying these, have also increased”, shared Vinay Pandya, the convenor of event. He added, “It is for the first time that so many artists would be exhibiting under same name. Exhibits of photographers, painters and sculptors are displayed.”

The exhibition had almost hundred people; few artists, some from their family who came to encourage them and some visitors. Book-set of 11 books, ‘kalagranth’  was given to 120 artists as a token of appreciation. A few artists were awarded the ‘kalaratna’ award to acknowledge their efforts in field of arts.

The exhibition saw a LIVE demonstration of clay sculpture making by Chandrakant Prajapati, who made a sculpture of his mentor Shri Vanrajsinh Jhala during the inauguration event.

The exhibition was held between 4th to 7th September, 2016
