Ahmedabad Design Festival at GLS Institute of Design

GLS Institute of Design is one of the new entrant in the fast growing Design education field of Ahmedabad. Earlier National Institute of Design and CEPT were, largely the only campuses where creative and design discourses took  place. Over last few years many new entrants have joined in, to meet the growing demand of design education. UnitedWorld of Design, Khyati School of Design, Anant National University, Faculty of Design, Nirma University are among the key ones. GLS University is a key education entity in Ahmedabad, and they too have initiated design education. Naturally, the number of campus events and symposiums around design have gone up.

GLSID wanted to created a bi-annual event that gives their students an opportunity to engage in design dialogue with design leaders and thinkers and connect with the citizens of the city. From here germinated the 3 day Ahmedabad Design Festival which beautifully brought to life every domain of creativity. THe ADF 2018 happened on December 21-23, 2018. Acclaimed designer Subrata Bhowmick, founder of Codesign Rajesh Dahiya, and NID alumnus and founder of Studio ABD Abhijit Bansod were among the few luminaries who were invited to grace the event at the GLS Campus. Lectures, open mic recitals, stand-up comedy happenings, hands-on activities, flea market shopping of creative textiles, paintings and handcrafted artefacts all of it culminated well to bring to life the theme of ‘Celebrating Ahmedabad’. Local woodblock carvers, puppet artisans, shoemakers, Zardosi designers, and various other craftsmen were given a complimentary and dedicated space to exhibit their products for the urban crowd. Students were also able to present their works related to fashion, jewellery, product design and interior design during the Ahmedabad Design Festival.

It is an encouraging beginning, one that will definitely blossom into a flower bearing tree in years to come.

In this picture story we show you glimpses from the fest.
